JOB SUMMARY:

The Drafting and Design Manager leads a team of drafters and designers in the creation of accurate, high-quality technical drawings and design documentation to support engineering and manufacturing projects. This role is responsible for managing workflow, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving continuous improvement in drafting processes and technologies. The manager collaborates cross-functionally with technical sales, project management, and production teams to ensure designs meet project requirements, timelines, and quality expectations. A strong focus on leadership, innovation, and technical excellence is essential to succeed in this role.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Direct supervision of drafting and design personnel, including performance management, training, and workload allocation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leadership & Team Management

· Lead and mentor a team of drafters and designers, fostering professional growth and collaboration.

· Assign and prioritize drafting tasks based on project timelines and resource availability.

· Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.

Project Oversight

· Oversee the development of detailed drawings, models, and design documentation for engineering or manufacturing projects.

· Ensure all designs meet applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.

· Monitor review and approval of completed designs.

Process & Quality Control

· Establish and maintain drafting standards, templates, and best practices.

· Implement quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency across all design outputs.

· Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and project management teams to resolve design-related issues.

Technology & Innovation

· Evaluate and implement new drafting technologies or strategies to improve efficiency and accuracy.

· Train staff on software tools and ensure proper usage across the team.

· Stay current with industry trends and integrate innovative design practices.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

· Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subject matter experts, and state compliance to ensure our designs meet organizational needs.

· Participate in design reviews and provide technical input during planning and execution phases.

· Communicate effectively across departments to ensure smooth workflow and information exchange.

Documentation & Compliance

· Maintain organized records of drawings, revisions, and design documentation.

· Ensure compliance with internal policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards.

· Support audits and reviews by providing accurate and timely documentation.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

· Expertise in CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar).

· Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design principles.

· Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

· Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.

· Proficiency in document control systems and engineering change processes.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required.

· 5+ years of experience in drafting/design, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

· Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

· Proficiency with CAD software and PLM/ERP systems.

TRAVEL & WORK CONDITIONS:

· Primarily based in South Dakota at either the Brandon or Elk Point facility with occasional travel to other TBB sites.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO):

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

· Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facility to determine needs

· Able to lift/carry 15 lbs.
