SIOUX CITY, Iowa (October 31, 2024) — The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center continues to offer several free youth programs through December. Education Coordinator, Amanda Gibson, is excited to invite the youth of Siouxland to attend these activities. Percy's Pals: (K-2, 1pm-2pm; 3-5, 2pm-3pm) Students in Percy’s Pals will be divided into two groups, based on school grades (K-2 and 3-5). Each section of students will meet for one hour, to engage in a series of scientific adventures inspired by the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Lewis and Clark Kids' Club: (Meets on the 3rd Saturday of the month.) This youth travel club for middle school students consists of out-of-town adventures. The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center provides supervision and transportation. The adventures will increase students' cultural awareness, encourage a love of the humanities, and incorporate the spirit of The Corps of Discovery's engagement in new cultural experiences.
Young Historians: (Meets every Wednesday during the school year from 3:30pm—5:00pm) This group is designed for high school students to learn the science of historiography (the study of historical writing) and to develop their understanding of public history. Students will engage in researching, writing, and presenting history using the latest trends in historiographic methods. Our future goal is to partner with the National History Day program so students may earn a chance to present their work in Washington, D.C.
Family Camp: (November 13, and December 11 from 6pm—8pm) The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center invites families to Family Camp nights, to engage in some fun stress-free time and educational activities together. We encourage those attending to include their extended families, as well! Activities may include game nights, ice cream socials, camp outs, or nature walks.
